3DS Price Drop’s to $169.99 and Starfox 64 3D, Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus Release Dates

28 Jul

The 3Ds was AWESOME, until everyone heard the price tag and the plethora of problems that were supposedly being shipped with the system. The 3Ds shipped March 27th an since then users have given Nintendo a good idea about where the 3DS stands and users can now honestly say the Nintendo has payed some attention to their rants.

The first bit of news is that Nintendo has slashed the price by a whopping $80 making the new price of the 3DS $169.99 in the US, and ¥25,000 to ¥15,000 in Japan. No exact price was listed for the EU or AU and Nintendo reported that new details were to surface soon. This is great and I completely agree with the statement Nintendo gave the press on this matter.

“For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “We are giving shoppers every incentive to pick up a Nintendo 3DS, from an amazing new price to a rapid-fire succession of great games.”

This is great and as soon as the opportunity arises most staff at Scewre are planning on buying the 3DS in contrary to the past when due to the hefty price tag only some members of staff showed any interest in the 3DS at all.

Nintendo has come so much farther from the problems that the 3DS brought at launch and the 3DS is now creating more features and functionality for it’s self and with everyday that passes more and more people are finding a place in their heart for the 3DS, the new price change is also bound to help their hearts accept the 3DS.

The price decrease will be effective as of August 12th.

Excited! There’s more, Nintendo at launch excited us with many classic titles such as Super Mario, Starfox, Mario Kart and Kid Icarus and now finally after almost a year of trailers we are getting a better idea about launch dates.

  • Star Fox 64 3D is due for release on Sept. 9th
  • Super Mario 3D Land (official title) will be out November
  • Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus: Uprising will launch December
In some more final news Nintendo has offered some benefits for early adopters and when I say benefits I really mean FREE GAMES.

These free games are available to anyone who owns a Nintendo 3DS system and uses a wireless broadband Internet signal to connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11. These users will automatically be registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program. The program contains two elements:

  1. Starting Sept. 1, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES™ Virtual Console™ games at no charge and before they are available in the Nintendo eShop to the general public. These games, including Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™, are slated to become paid downloadable games, but Ambassadors get them early for free. Once the paid versions of the games are posted to the Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost.
  2. By the end of 2011, Nintendo will provide Ambassadors with 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games. These include games like Yoshi’s Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™. These games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future.
As usual waiting has always been the game with Nintendo and for those who did wait they got some really cool benefits and frankly because of these announcements a majority in the Scewre crew are considering purchasing a 3DS in contrary to before when the high price tag just didn’t warrant the purchase.

Review: 2011 Mac Mini

28 Jul

Sleek aluminum design. Easy access to memory. A built-in power supply.
The new Mac mini makes the most of every square inch.

In sync with Apple’s release of OS X Lion comes a refresh of the Mac Mini line. The 2011 refresh had bold moves and powerful upgrades, read more to uncover additional details.

One of the biggest down fall’s with the previous Mac Mini is that although it wasnt meant to be a pro macine it didn’t   offer basic features, like being able to access the inside. Now with the new Mac Mini there is an easily removable  cover  that you can use to install new memory, perhaps a larger harddrive and there seems to be a way even to access  the Wifi chip if that is an important factor for you. May I add that even if its only the Mac Minis inside the inside of the machine still looks swell and just looks great. Unfortunatly other than basic access to parts there is no other real benefit to having the panel and although it would have been nice to had more acess to the inside it isnt really neccesary in the Mac Mini.

One of the main features I love about Apple products are the clean simple and functional designs at without a doubt Apple has incorporated that in the new Mac Mini and although it’s small upgrade in time you’ll be thankful it was there to start with. This feature is the built in powersupply and because the Mac Mini has one you will only see one cord coming out of the Mac and this quite nice with all the Apple wireless peripherals the only wires you’ll see are the wires to the monitor and electricity outlet which in the world of a clean freak is a dream come true. Again Apple nails the small touches.

The Mac Mini has now been updated to be significantly more funtional with a plutora of new ports, including a new Thunderbolt port as well as an SD card reader in the back, the headphone port also doubles as a microphone and speaker port. There is also the much needed addition of an HDMI port which I though should have been standard a long time ago seing as how the Mac Mini is often used as a media center. There is also a vent that allow air to go through. One thing I have never been fond of in the design of the Mac Mini is the location of the power button being in the back it’s really inconvient and although it’s was placed in that specific spot because of design reasons I really do wish that Apple could find a way to incorporate an on button at the front perhaps the on button could be the light sensor in the front, when you put your hands in front of the light it could turn on, similar to the touch sensitive button’s on older PS3s.

Take a closer look at the front of the Mac Mini…. Notice anything different? That’s right, there’s no opticial disk drive. This is a blod move coming from Apple but I have a feeling it’s a good one. With software avaible online along with digital media access in seconds for heaps lower than physical discs, digital is the future. This move is a bold design statement but with no real use for the superdrive there’s no real reason to have it and with updated preformance the Mac Mini can download and install the drivers for your new printer faster than you can take the software disc out of its case.  In any case if having an CD drive is important to you then Apple does offer an optional external “Super Drive“.

The Mac Mini is and for a long time has been a very effecient machine and for a long time the packaging has been minimal and so has the computer’s power consumption it’s self and now with the new Mac Mini on idle it consumer 13 watts less then when it’s on so for those who work of the computer this is deffenately affecient enough to save you a couple bucks on the monthly bill.

The new Intel core i5 come standard in the Mac Mini the lower end is clocked at 2.3ghz and there is another option for a core i5 clocked at 2.5ghz. If you feel your require even more power Apple’s top end Mac Mini houses at 2.7ghz intel core i7. This is phenomanal the pricepoint of a Mac Mini and may I mention that there are computers much bigger than the Mac Mini that dont even come close to specing it. Below are some benchmarks that compare how much faster the Mac Mini really is in comparasion to it’s predeccors.  I think it is also important to mention that these benchmarks are those of the Baseline Mac Mini.

Mac Mini processor preformance

CiniBenchMultiprocessor render | 2.1x

Modo3D render | 2.0x

MathematicaMathematicaMark8 | 1.8x

ApertureCommon application tasks | 1.8x

The 2.5ghz Mac Mini offers the ATI Radeon HD graphics processor with 256mb GDDR5 memory. This while not being superb is quite decent for a computer with such small form factor. I should also mention that with higher models come even more acceptable specs for graphics but if your a mainstream user than the 2.3ghz baseline Mac Mini offers the Intel HD graphics processor which for regular tasks and light gaming is more than enough.  Below we have some results of the Mac Mini`s speed imporvement over it`s last generation.

Mac Mini Graphics Performance

Portal | 2.0x

Portal 2 | 1.9x

Half-Life 2: Episode Two | 1.8x

StarCraft II | 1.6x

Apple has a long history of keeping peripharls such the mouse and keyboard wireless saving the desk mess this is acomplished via bluetooth and in Apple history there has been a long use of bluetooth. With the new Mac Mini you are assured an even more powerful bluetooth receiever for all your bluetooth peripherals. Another addition is wireless internet and although this is expected from Apple it`s a nice feautre to have in a desktop machine.

For the better or for the worse Apple minimalises on extra`s. With the Mac Mini all you get is the computer itself. This can be as I mentioned a good or bad thing depending on your situation.

Harddrive cutomizability has always been a plus about Apple and with the release of the new Mac Mini come`s some new hardrive options. The Mac mini comes with a 500GB hard drive or an optional 750GB hard drive. This is perfect for you to pack in your photo libraries, movies, music, files, and more. Choose the 256GB solid-state drive for your 2.5GHz Mac mini, and it will be even more responsive, boot up even faster, and launch applications in no time.

The coolest part of all of this is the fact that the Mac Mini is ready for you to let the lion lose right out of the box and by this I mean that the new Mac Mini out of the box comes with OS X Lion, which is an added bonus.

The Mac Mini is a great machine and starting at only $599 it`s definately afforable and it is defienately comparable to the PC on the market becuase of the starting price alone. It offer`s bold design changes and great preformance upgrades. I should also mention that the clean design especially with the power cord is a great bonus for many users. Unfortunately despite it`s pricetag I cant really warrant an upgrade unless you are a regular computer user who works directly of the computer. On the contrary it`s still remains a vaible option if you are looking for a begginer Mac and it`s great for Mainstream users looking to do everyday tasks.

If you are looking for additonal information about the new Mac Mini look no further than Apple`s website.

The Ultimate Plan for Microsoft

28 Jul

Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Skydrive, Hotmail, Live Messenger the list can go on forever, welcome to the Ultimate Plan for Microsoft a document that covers exactly what Microsoft needs to do if they want to succeed. The point I want to prove before I continue with this document is that Microsoft has already created products that are great useful and work well with all hardware types the only problem with these products is the implementation and this goes with all Microsoft products, in honesty as a company Microsoft is all over the place! More than anything else I hope for this document to be an organization chart of how all the ideas should be implemented to create a seamless network of gadgets that work with each other in harmony.

I want to start of by addressing that Microsoft should continue with their hardware development model, let companies keep producing gadgets the way they think they should develop their products because each company addresses their own community and with different hardware companies can create and innovate for various markets and on a global scale make people happy with the different choices on the contrary I think it would be beneficial for Microsoft to lock down software as for this plan to work they need to be in total control of the software.

I am going to being tackling the Microsoft mess by clearing out everything except for the operating systems, by this I mean Microsoft’s Windows 8, Windows Phone OS and the Windows Tablet OS assuming by their latest conference that they will be entering the market of tablets with a OS resembling the qualities of Windows Phone OS.  I want to bring Skydrive into the equation for a second, Skydrive for those of you that don’t is a cloud storage network that Microsoft a few years back released and in favor of the public audience was a big flop. Let’s start of by making Skydrive strictly only Windows compatible, next let’s move around some functionality and by this I mean if you were a user of Windows Skydrive you will know that there was the ability to create document’s online in a GUI that was similar to Microsoft’s Word, then lets add functionality to create Microsoft Powerpoints as well as Excel spreadsheets and Publisher documents and bringing in the other applications  that comes in the Microsoft Office package this enables us to create a powerful cloud platform, now let’s add the functionality of being able to sync this document to all Live ID authorized computers that are registered under you and now we are able to successfully create and edit documents while keeping all computers up to date. Currently Microsoft provides 25gb of free store that is all great and although cloud computing is becoming a closer reality the more practical use for Skydrive should be the functionality of being able to keep media files, documents, applications all up to date between the laptop, tablet and phone. When everything is synced in harmony using the devices is just that much greater of an experience. This is in a sesnse how I would like the networking between the devices work.

Next I want to cover the software and the application store, right now to download an application you will have to navigate to a website and download then run the executable file. That to this date isn’t a good or bad way of doing things and currently the selection is also limited on the windows phone OS application store. That’s why I propose to create a ubicoudous application store on both Windows computer OS and Windows Mobile OS, maybe something along the lines of the Live Store, this can be a centralized place to keep all the applications, music, videos and offer the content for an inexpensive price and it’s sure to be success. Also creating the “Live Store” ubicioudous on all devices will keep things simple and to perhaps login you have to use your hotmail ID, which can create additional incentive to signing up for the email service in the process of creating exposure for the app store. I have also decided that it would be in the user experience’s best intrest to use Skydrive as a way of syncing the apps automatically with out Windows Phone device logged in under your Hotmail id and then also sync the apps to the computer for “safe keeping”. This will add to the process of creating the smooth and synchronized experience that we want to achieve.

The next thing that I want to work on is the actual operating systems. I think it would be in the users best interest to keep Windows 8 similar to Windows 7 because the way I look at it computers are meant to complete work and with the current layout of Windows 8 for professionals many wont appreciate it for obvious reasons, although taking the home screen in Windows 8 can still be preserved by creating it as a dashboard or etc. because to take a quick look at your information the Windows 8 layout can be great for keeping as a dashboard. Although Windows 8 may not be great on the computer it certainly is good news for mobile platforms like the tablet and phone on which the Windows 8 layout is already implemented, if it hasn’t already I also think that there should be full customization options to change the arrangement of the icons, color of text and background image setting because if these setting are presented in a user friendly way there is a good chance that mainstream users will take advantage of this and use it in order to make the phone more personal.  On the tablet I recommend keeping the same layout as it would be on the Windows Phone with only addition that some of the applications become more useful with the extra screen relastate that the tablet gives them. I also recommend creating simple application development platforms and offer additional incentives such as great coding programs and easy tutorials to follow and when you have developers on you will be well of. I am not sure if I also made this clear but I will know, there should be an application store on the desktop operating system as well in order to aggregate applications into one program and it will also be a great way for users to discover new applications and take even more use of the operating system. As I have been mentioning all along I recommend using Skydrive feature that I outlined to connect the Windows Desktop OS to the Windows Phone OS to the Windows Tablet OS in order to create a connected experience in between the devices.

Now that we have tackled the big issues I think it’s time that we tackle some of the details. The first one being there should be better media creation and consumption applications, currently Windows Movie Maker is basic but does not even give the video maker any free room, its in words too basic. There should be more functionality more creative control, moving around text, I also recomend creating more photography editing apps perhaps just create more that Microsoft Office will bring more users to Windows because one of the main reasons people dont use Windows is because there is extremely limited Media creation programs and burning that need out is the trick to getting users attracted to Windows again. Essentially windows should continue creating programs except they should have productive funtionality but still maintaing it’s core simple user experience.

In essence with this document I have covered the need for cloud connectivity between devices as well how the operating systems should implemented with an application store to agriagte applications into one source. I have also presented ways of taking use of the Live ID and I have addressed the need for more pro-sumer applications. Hopefully this will help clear the mess that Microsoft has made and from then on you can continue to release updates and innovate on already launched ideas. This organization plan I know will put Microsoft back in the path of success competing with fellow competitors, creating and innovating the tech market. This could have not been previously achieved because of the mess but now that things are clear you have a path of innovation ahead of you which can help you succeed and make some certain shareholders as well as avid Microsoft users happy.

Empire Avenue: Equity Based Purchases

28 Jul

Empire Avenue for those who aren’t familiar is a social networking game where based on your online interaction on social networks you are given a score. This score can then over time increase or decrease depending on your social interaction similar to concept of a stock market interface that is the basis of Empire Avenue itself. Recently, I ventured extensively into some more areas of Empire Avenue to see if there are any new techniques I can use. Eventually I made a discovery and after doing a little bit of thinking I figured out how to make equity based purchases that can both increase your share price and help you create a brick and mortar foundation in the case that your “stock portfolio” drops in value.

To start the explanation log into your account at Empire Avenue and navigate to (http://www.empireavenue.com/profile/money/). Then, look for the grey box that states your current bank balance.

You will see that I have highlighted the Net Wealth row. Net Wealth is the combined value of your assets. In the case of Empire Avenue your assets are the people you have invested in or your “Portfolio Wealth” and the Luxury Items you bought from the in-game shop. You will notice that these two categories totaled makes your net wealth. What I am trying to prove is that the amount you have invested in people can any drop drastically similar to the stock market and if you don’t own any “Luxury Items” your luxury wealth will be zero and your Net Wealth will have to completely rely on your portfolio. This means that any drastic changes you make on your portfolio can affect your stock price and your overall dividend return. That is why the shop is such an important aspect of the game because without owning Luxury Items you have no equity and thus your Luxury Wealth is nothing. Buying from the shop can increase your Luxury Wealth and create a brick and mortar foundation in the case that your portfolio drastically drops in value.

The folks at Empire Avenue having already realized this added a cool little bonus when you buy a luxury item! When you own an item every day your item increases in value and little by little it increases your Net Wealth as well so even if you can’t buy stocks or luxury items regularly every day your Net Wealth increases by a little bit. That’s an awesome bonus  because you’re raising your wealth for free.

The higher the value of the item the higher your Net Wealth increase is. You will also find that items in the shop that you buy with real money give you an extremely high Net Wealth increase and they give you actual Weekly Earnings that you can actually spend. A good example of the benefits in paid items would be the castle.

Owning equity plays a big part in the game of Empire Avenue and obviously the people who developed the game made it a core element. Whenever you can, I strongly recommend buying Luxury Items from the in-game shop to balance out your portfolio and to grow your Net Wealth. I hope this article has given the Empire Avenue in-game shop more importance because of right now many consider it a novelty when in truth it can drastically change the tables of the game.

iCloud: Why it’s free and thoughts

28 Jul

Recently Apple held their WWDC 2011 in San Fransisco and they managed to astound the audience with iCloud, IOS 5 and other miscellaneous annoucments. But in the end the big annoucment was iCloud Apple’s cloud networking service that was clearly aimed directly at it’s competitors and to a certain extent claimed the cloud networking market. But here’s the thing about iCloud it’s not exactly like it’s competitors, it basically more like a unanimous syncing system a prime example would be that if you had an iPad and a Macbook your on your flight you type something on your iPad in the Pages app what iCloud will do is download the document and then sync it with the other devices that can read the text and as changes are being  made to the document it constantly downloaded and updates the newest versions automatically so the newest versions are ready when your are going to access the document. This all happens in the background in an instant and the way it works is quite “awesome” and as this translate’s over to the music syncing and the photo’s and iCal it’s just what we’ve been waiting for and to close it of it’s all FREE.  Which is extremly again “awesome” although for the .me email service you can pay extra to get additional storage for your .me email account but that’s besides the point it’s still all free iCloud and the 5gb for email. But your probably wondering it’s great to hear that it is free but Apple a company known for compartively expensive products, it’s just highly unorthodox for a service to be of no charge and although this may be true this is extremly intelligent marketing on Apple’s part the reason why it’s free is because Apple want iCloud to be your number one impulse and reason for buying the iDevices and Mac’s. The created the service so it works seamlessly between ownly Apple software so when PC user’s see such a seamless interface it’s gives enough reason to buy a Mac an iPad and an iPhone so that you can have a unanimous experience between all the devices and when you offer it for free there’s no reason you shouldn’t switch to the Mac platform whhen everything works seamlesly and enexpensively where are PC cloud services are all over the place done in a unorthodox fashion and in some cases not enegineered too great. After long thinking I am willing to put my word on it that when Apple is off with iCloud, IOS 5 and OSX Lion Apple will see a spike in sales without a doubt and with careful marketing plus engineering Apple is guaranteed to again dominate another industry of godly particles. Cloud. You can find out more about iCloud at www.iCloud.com.

Fast Forward: Android meets the LED Lightbulb

28 Jul

Ever since the first Filament lightbulb lighting technology has come far from its roots, we now have energy effecient lightbulbs and lightbulbs consisting of the light emiting diode technology. Truly what we take for granted has change the way we live everyday. At the Google I/O confrence Google made a push to home technologies and one of the technologies that caught my intrest was their lightbulb. Google has simply created a demo of a product that allowed your android phone to control the LED lightbulb. This I think is a huge push towards home innovations. The demo instead of also only using the usual wi-fi or home automation protocols used the brand new mesh protocol, another  innovation from Google. Google hopes that with this product developers will create home automation apps to support Google’s line of home technologies. The person carrying out the demo was playing a shooting game with the lights turning off as shots were fired which made for a realistic gameplay experience and frankly with  the ways that the technology was being used it makes me excited what other developers can make from the API.

Lighting is very visible and prevalent so it made sense for it to be first foray for the platform,” Holland said. “Every one of the lights has a radio integrated inside the lamp so there’s no additional equipment.”

Google is not the only to push home automation products slowly many companies are pushing out their own revisions to making this market more and more intriguing and exciting. The reason why Google used the mesh protocol is because the other protocols would have had the problem of radio interference. These bulbs should be avaible by the end of the year and cost the same as general purpose LED bulbs. I think as Google enters the market of home automation products they need to find creative ways to push and drive this market because literally this market has proved to be a hard sell for many consumers, and many consumers are not paying much attention mainly because the companies in home automation need to take the market more seriously and realize that to break this trend in consumer markets the technology will have to come far in what it’s purpose is and how affordable it can be for the mainstream crowd.

I am personally very excited to hear what’s in store for this market, I believe that with Google’s market penetration there is a good chance Google can really peak people’s interest. Anyway I will keep an eye out for these technologies because I feel they are slowly grabbing my interest and as they make home automation simpler and simpler I can image it, my Galaxy Tab 10.1 in my hand as I play with the switches in my house, sounds boring but you would not believe how useful it is until you have sat hours together on your couch watching marathons of your favorite shows.

Review: 2011 Macbook Air

27 Jul

In harmony with Apple’s launch of OS X Lion Apple has released a revision to it’s Macbook Air line. It’s core focus with this revision was to create a more powerful Macbook Air while keeping the same design and making the price tag more affordable for mainstream consumers.

Design

The new Macbook Air is created based on Apple’s trademark unibody design as was the last one, the only exception with the new revised design is a little peep hole at the top of the case. This is for the FaceTime camera and Apple report’s that it’s smaller than the one inside of the iPhone and most probably it’s going to be around the same quality as the FaceTime camera inside the iPhone as well, and let me be clear that is NOT a compliment.

The new visual attraction of the Macbook Air apart from itself I would say is the signature illuminated keyboard, this is perfect for typing on a plane during the night and reading your favorite websites before you head to the sack. Of course it can be perfect for many other situations as well because with a built-in ambient lighting sensor it adjusts the brightness of the keyboard so it’s not a nuisance during the day when you really don’t require the back light and may I mention the sensor might become a useful tool when your looking to save some battery life.

Speaking of battery life because of smaller components inside the Macbook Air it is reported that the Macbook Air will give you around 5-7hrs of battery life which is phenomenal especially when paired with the seamless design of the Macbook Air itself. This is great for students, travelers, and in general people who frequently travel from destination to destination and need to be connected with their computers.  It can also be perfect for the average consumer who isn’t power hungry and is only looking for a light design and excellent battery life coupled with a whole plethora of features both hardware wise and software wise.

The overall exterior of the notebook itself is beautiful, its seamless design is great to hold and use, may I mention as well that its weight is unnoticeable at 2.38 pounds for the 11-inch  model and 2.96 pounds for  the 13-inch model.  It also houses the trademark Multi-Touch track pad in order to take full advantage of OS X Lion.

Performance

Both the 11 and 13 inch models house the core i5 and core i7  processors. The clock speeds of these processors start at 1.8ghz and don’t go much higher. For the better or for the worse Apple took priority to battery life and the result is a processor clocked at comparatively low speeds in order to conserve battery life.

Fortunately Apple’s iconic  Thunderbolt i/o port saves the day with it’s incorporation in the Macbook Air. This is a great feature but unfortunately the truth is it’s really not going to be much use to you as there is no real incorporation of Thunderbolt in products just yet.

In certain markets flash storage is becoming more and more popular and frankly it was expected that Apple’s Macbook Air would also have it. I must say though I am amazed by the flash store and the ability to put the Macbook Air on standby for 30 days and may I mention the ever so conveient instant bootup and application loading times.

Features

Apple is widely known for their detailed displays and the Macbook Air is no exception, the display measures a mere 4.86  millimeters (0.19 inch) thick and still the display I have to honestly say is great for reading websites, watching movies and creating documents.

The speakers are also quite decent the sound quality is not equivalent to that of an external speaker set but for being an ultra-thin notebook it’s quite good.

Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity have for the  longest time been a big part of Apple’s design so it’s only logical that the MacBook Air features 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 technology.

The coolest part of the new Macbook Air is that it comes with a roaring Lion that is of course Mac OS X Lion. Honestly the Macbook Air 2011 model seems like a decent upgrade to the series although you may not spot that many differences in an in-def comparison for some people the new slight improvements on features and performance can warrant an upgrade and for the comparatively cheap starting price of $999 the features I mentioned coupled with the price can be all the reason to invest in the new Macbook Air and honestly if I had the opportunity I would definitely invest in one as well due to the portable form factor yet productive design.

If you are looking for additional details on the new Macbook Air click here.

Note: It is worth mentioning that this new Macbook Air is a replacement for the white plastic Macbook so if you are in general looking for a new starting Macbook the Macbook Air is your option . Also for those that need access to a CD Drive Apple sells a seperate accesory called the “Super Drive” that connects to the Macbook Air via USB.

Lion Downloads Top One Million in 24hrs

27 Jul

OS X Lion is Apple’s latest operating system release and Apple nailed a couple things. The first is indefinitely pricing at only $29.99 the price is appealing to regular level consumers who otherwise if the operating system was normally priced at $120 would not upgrade. With small but much anticipated upgrades Lion has sparked like wild fire in the App Store and this is clear with the earnings that Apple has reported for the first day of sales. This has simultaneously also brought Apple’s stock price touching 400 a share. With a plethora of new features, affordable price and easy download from the Mac App Store, Lion has definitely paved it’s own way to success and quite honestly although these numbers are quite exciting I was ironically expecting most of these results. Of course with the release of Lion came new Mac Minis, Thunderbolt Displays and a new line of Macbook Airs that for the most part look towards appealing the Mac crowd that is growing at an exponential rate.

NVIDIA Releases Technology Enabling Websites to Stream Stereoscopic 3D Video

27 Jul

Its hard to think that just a two years ago we caught a glimpse of 3D technology on a household TV! Now its no suprise that NVIDIA on April the 14th only a year after 3D tv’s day viewed on the consumer market do we have the ability to stream stereoscopic 3D via the web. Its true! NVIDIA has become the first to deploy a 3D video plugin for the Microsoft Media Platform Framework v2.5 otherwise known as the MMP v2.5 framework with support for the active shutter 3D glasses. The software is similar to that of what powers the NVIDIA 3D Web community (www.3DVisionLive.com). The MMP Player Framwork is essetially an opensource code that allows developers to effeciently deploy customizable media-players for the web, this technology is based on Microsoft’s Silverlight and comes with extensive support for IIS Smooth Streaming and Microsoft PlayReady DRM.

With NVIDIA’s new 3D video plug-in, developers can now take full advantage of the stereoscopic 3D video streaming support available in the latest version of Microsoft Media Platform Player Framework,” said David Sayed, senior product manager at Microsoft Corp. ”Microsoft is delighted to work with NVIDIA to deliver exciting functionality and capabilities to help developers build the next wave of websites powered by the Microsoft Media Platform.

NVIDIA has also made an accesible how-to guide with instructions on what components are needed for this technology to be implemented in websites. The 3D video plugin and guide can be accessed today at (www.3DVisionLive.com/apps). Look out for coming events as NVIDIA will be showcasing this technology around the globe.

“The Web is enabling an entirely new market for creating and delivering compelling, innovative 3D content,” said Jon Barad, senior business development manager at NVIDIA. “Our 3D Vision technology now makes it easy for web developers to integrate world-class stereo 3D video capabilities into all types of sites.”

I believe that this technology can and will go far. The content streaming market is huge and the potential NVIDIA has unlocked is imansive. As an instance lets look at Netflix! Once 3D TV’s become more common in households we may see Netflix unlocking 3D streaming opening up a whole world of possibilities. Possibily five years down the road we may be able to pull out a bowl of popcorn and watch Avatar in 3D streaming to our living room within minutes. Possibly look at Youtube as an example, if Youtube makes 3D video uploads possible we may see content producers taking use of this technology and creating even more enjoyabe content. In my opinion there is a huge potential for technology in the streaming market we just have to wait for 3D market to become more mature and enter the mainstream market. Having said this we have to obviously see how things go five years down the road but I believe that if 3D streaming is implemented properly it can very well be closer to consumers than you think.
